One-Page Abstract

All students must submit an abstract of research findings; abstracts should not exceed one page single spaced, font size cannot be smaller than 10-pt for ease of readability. Your mentor is expected to assist you in preparing and/or finalizing the abstract. It should include the following:

  • Title of the presentation
  • Your name, your mentor's name, and any other collaborators
  • Introduction with background/rationale
  • Hypothesis/Purpose
  • Method
  • Findings/Results
  • Conclusion/Overall significance/Broader perspective
  • Note: Abstracts should not include references, figures, tables or links

The abstract must be uploaded with the Research Conference registration Application will open on August 1. (see below for due dates). 

Oral Presentation

  • The registration deadline for oral presentations is noon on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. The final abstract must be uploaded via the registration website by this date.
  • Presentations are limited to nine minutes followed by three minutes for questions.
  • A timekeeper will be present in the room to keep track of time.
  • Presentations for summer research students will be evaluated by two judges.

Poster Presentation

  • The registration deadline for poster presentations is noon on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. The final abstract must be uploaded via the registration website by this date.
  • Posters will be set up in MERF Atrium.  These boards are 4' high by 6' wide.
  • Mentors have been notified of the poster requirement and should assist you in obtaining the materials necessary for preparation of the poster.
  • Neither CCOM nor the Research Fellowship Program has money to pay for poster materials or printing costs. 
  • Printing available from the Design Center.  (Provide minimum 2-day lead time for poster printing)

  • Prepare a "formal" version of your talk. Poster and presentation for summer research students will be evaluated by two judges during the assigned presentation hour.
  • Your poster MUST be up in its designated place by 8 am on the first day of the conference (Wednesday 9/16), regardless of which day you are assigned to present.  All posters must stay up for both days, then be removed by 2pm on day two (Thursday 9/17), when all the poster display boards will be removed.
