The Medical Student Satellite Chapter of the Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity aims to connect students with the reality that care for patients doesn’t end when they leave the clinic. Many families in the U.S. and abroad lack a safe, clean, and affordable living space, which often can directly affect the overall health of a patient. Perhaps, best stated on the Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity pamphlet, “Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity is an ecumenical Christian housing ministry inclusive of all faiths and ethnicities. Every man, woman, and child should have a simple, decent, affordable place to live in dignity and safety regardless of their religious preference or background.” Our group aims to help in this effort by organizing and participating in at least two Habitat events per semester and by supporting those individuals who desire to help out in additional ways.
